Basic Purpose:
This position manages relationships with regional and county-level economic development corporations (EDCs) throughout the State of Florida and develops and fosters relationship with aerospace companies in Florida or those considering Florida as a business location. Building upon these relationships, the identifies leads, cultivates prospects, identifies investment opportunities, and closes and implements deals, working withing the limits of established policy.
Essential accountabilities or tasks:
  • Support VP of Business and Economic Development to develop leads and opportunities that meet the vision and mission of Space Florida’s growth of the aerospace sector in Florida.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regional and county-level economic development corporations (EDCs) in assigned territories throughout the State of Florida, educating EDC staff on Space Florida’s statutory powers, financing toolkit, and the benefits Space Florida offers expanding and relocating aerospace/aviation companies.
  • Work collaboratively with appropriate state, regional, local, airport, and utility economic development staff in pursuing opportunities.
  • Collaborate with EDC staff to plan and implement outreach program designed to engage with and inform leadership of major aerospace/aviation companies on Space Florida’s statutory powers, financing toolkit, and the benefits Space Florida offers to expanding aerospace/aviation companies.
  • Manage and develop inbound business development opportunities from EDC referrals and independent inquiries.
  • Enter required lead/prospect tracking information into Salesforce CRM.
  • Manage identified company investment opportunities as business development project lead through the project life cycle, i.e., from lead identification through prospect development, deal closing and implementation.
  • Secure information from prospective partner companies, and other entities involved in transactions (e.g., airport providing site through a ground lease) required to conduct due diligence and draft contracts and other legal agreements.
  • Work collaboratively with Space Florida contracts, finance/accounting, and legal departments, to conduct due diligence and in development and negotiation of deal documents, Board of Directors approvals, and deal closing.
  • Represent Space Florida at economic development conferences, and selected aerospace/aviation tradeshows as agreed to by supervisor.
Supervision:
  • This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economic Development, Real Estate, or other related discipline.
  • 5 years’ experience in a sales/marketing role, preferably in selling a complex/unique product or service with a longer sales cycle.
  • Extensive overnight travel around the State of Florida is required.
  • Domestic and occasional international overnight travel (e.g., Paris and Farnborough Air Shows) is required.
  • Salesforce CRM experience preferred.
  • Prior economic development experience, and/or aerospace/aviation industry experience, is helpful.
  • Intermediate level competency in Microsoft Office suite. Intermediate financial modeling skills in Excel are helpful.
