Basic Purpose:
The Policy Analyst will play a crucial role in evaluating, developing, and implementing regulatory and non-regulatory policies for Space Florida. This individual will be instrumental in ensuring that all policy initiatives are legally vetted, align with the organization's goals and objectives, and positively impact the aerospace industry. The Policy Analyst will conduct thorough research, analysis, and evaluation of existing and proposed policies, legislation, and regulations to recommend necessary changes and improvements.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES OR TASKS:
- Work alongside the VP of Strategic Communications and Policy to critically assess existing regulatory and non-regulatory policies to identify areas requiring modification or improvement.
- Work with relevant Space Florida units and legal teams to ensure proposed policies are legally compliant, meet the organization's strategic goals, and address aerospace industry needs.
- Conduct comprehensive research on case law, precedents, and regulatory standards to evaluate impact on proposed and existing law. Ensure that all policy recommendations are grounded in legal principles.
- Lead the analysis process of aerospace policy issues, using reliable data, statistical tools, and analytical frameworks. Make well-founded recommendations based on empirical evidence and best practices.
- Draft clear, concise, and effective aerospace regulations or policy initiatives that reflect the findings and recommendations from research. Ensure drafts are understandable, implementable, and capable of achieving the desired societal impact.
- Support the government affairs team in their efforts including conducting analyses of bills that could impact Space Florida and proposed legislation. Evaluate the potential economic impacts of proposed legislation or policy changes.
- Provide advice and recommendations for the modification or development of policies. Ensure recommendations are feasible and aligned with broader strategic objectives. Work with the appropriate internal stakeholders on implementation efforts.
- Coordinate with federal and international agencies and organizations and collaborate with various stakeholders around aerospace policy initiatives.
- Work enterprise wide to identify aerospace policy-driven initiatives that directly contribute to Space Florida’s long-term sustainability.
- Work closely with aerospace industry stakeholders on important policy changes that support a thriving aerospace economy in Florida.
- Conduct thorough analysis to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges in the aerospace sector.
- Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of implemented policies assessing their impact on Space Florida’s strategic goals and the broader aerospace ecosystem.
- Monitor changes in federal, state, and local regulations that may affect Space Florida’s operations and initiatives.
- Identify potential risks to implementation, working with appropriate teams to develop mitigation strategies to assess risks.
SUPERVISION:
- This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in policy analysis, legislative development, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of policy development processes, legal research methods, and statistical analysis.
- Proven ability to synthesize complex information and present findings clearly and concisely.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft legislation and policy documents. Proficient in data analysis software and tools relevant to policy research and evaluation.
