Virtual Information Session for U.S. Space Command HQ Basing Eligibility

Exploration Park, Fla. (May 29, 2020) – Space Florida is pleased to announce it will host a virtual information session on the U.S. Space Command Headquarters Basing Eligibility on Wednesday, June 3 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., EDT. The virtual event, held in partnership with Enterprise Florida, The Florida Defense Support Task Force, The Florida Defense Alliance and Keiser University, is an opportunity to review and discuss the recently-expanded criteria to locate the U.S. Space Command Headquarters. Florida and Florida communities remain strong candidates. Space Florida is hosting this event to facilitate information for Florida communities to best evaluate their eligibility and communicate their strengths to the U.S. Space Force.

“The nation’s creation of a new Defense Department service Space Force creates exciting new opportunities for Florida to posture support to its programs,” said Florida Lt. Governor Jeanette Núñez at a recent Space Command Stakeholder Engagement Planning event. “No other state carries the robust combination of commercial space and defense space capabilities found here in Florida.”

“We look forward to engaging our Florida communities in this important discussion for the future of U.S. Space Command Headquarters,” said Frank DiBello, President and CEO of Space Florida. “Florida’s robust defense and aerospace ecosystem provides unique capabilities that would greatly benefit the U.S. Space Force.

”Next week’s Basing Eligibility Overview will feature COL Elizabeth A. Medina (USA, Ret.) Vice President, Military and Defense, Enterprise Florida, Inc., and CAPT Jim Kuzma (USN, Ret.), Senior Vice President and General Manager for Space Florida.

The recent creation of Space Force generates opportunities for new commands, supporting structures and related business development as this new branch of the military continues to develop in the coming years.
