Amazon’s Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit. Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
But, they needed a location to build a facility that could conduct final preparations ahead of satellite deployment through heavy-lift launch vehicles.
So, they turned to Space Florida. Amazon utilized the lease structure agreement from our financial toolkit, allowing them to build the 100,000+ square foot facility at Space Florida’s Launch and Landing Facility. The project also benefited from infrastructure investment through the Spaceport Improvement Program, administered by Space Florida and the Florida Department of Transportation.
Now, with the success of its Protoflight mission, Project Kuiper has secured more than 80 launches, providing enough capacity to deploy the majority of their satellite constellation. The agreements comprise the largest commercial procurement of launch capacity in history, and support thousands of suppliers and highly skilled jobs across the United States and Europe.
